Tryout/Practice Role Play

Hello, All!

READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE REPLYING!

This thread is multipurpose: to reassure the more experienced members, and to help out newbies. This will be an ongoing roleplay with new characters coming and going all the time. The story line for this roleplay will be really simple, that way nobody gets too lost, but we still have an opportunity to look at your skills and weaknesses. Your performance in the story will be looked at by admins (Myself and/or KittyMZ) who will tell you if you need more practice, answer your questions, and help you improve. :::NOTE: We aren't perfect either. If something we are doing is really bothering you, let us know politely, and we'll see what we can do, okay? No need to get mean.:::

Here's the story. My character, Lana Flowers, is subbing for the Theater director at your high school. You are interviewing for a job at the costume shop. Your job is to complete an interview with Ms. Flowers.
Here's what your posts should have:
1. A character sheet. Check the main Basics board for a basic template if you need ideas.
2. A basic description of your character's thoughts about Ms. Flowers. Do they think she is pretty? Does she have a pimple on her nose? Is she treating you like a kinder-gardener?
3. A simple conversation, answer Ms. Flowers' question.

Name: Lana Flowers
Age: 34
Gender:F
Family:Older parents who live in Pennsylvania, a 30 yr old brother and a 25 yr old sister
Personality:Quiet and shy around strangers, Lana only opens up around people she likes. She tries to see the best in everyone, but once you lose her trust, it's tough to win back.
Background: She grew up in small town PA, with her parents and younger siblings. She went to an all girl's school for her English degree, and writes YA novels. She is supplementing her income by substitute teaching until she gets published.
Likes:reading, writing, piano music
Dislikes:math, loud people, alcohol
Description: Lana is your average 30-something young woman. She has a childlike face, with a small spatter of freckles over her cheeks and nose.
Hair:Light brown, usually in a ponytail or bun
Eyes:hazel/green
Height:5'4"
Figure:Not fat, but not skinny. Just slightly curvier than average.
Clothing: A light blue blouse with short sleeves along with a medium grey pencil skirt.

Name: Shizuna Nishimura
Age: 16
Gender:F
Family:Her father, Makoto Nishimura, who owns a large company and works overseas.
Personality:Shizuna mainly keeps to herself, oftentimes locking herself in the art room to sculpt. She is bold and expressive around people she is comfortable with, and tends to spoil those she loves.
Background: Her mother died in a car accident when she was young; she survived, so she has guilt over that. She is deeply protective of her best friend, Eriko Inoue (Elly), and will do anything for her.
Likes:drawing, sculpting, hanging out with her bestie
Dislikes:being misled, crowds, being forgotten
Description: Shizuna is exceptionally talented, and she desires to be known as somebody other than her father's daughter.
Hair:Black, let down with a thin braid tied around her head pinned back by bobbypins (red, blue, pink, purple, gold...sound familiar?)
Eyes:Dark brown
Height:5'1''
Figure:Compact. She thinks she's bigger than she actually is.
Clothing: Her navy blue school uniform--a blazer, white dress shirt, skirt, and thin ribbon around her collar, with white knee-highs and brown mary janes.

Ms. Flowers sat at her desk humming Phantom of the Opera as she waited for the next student interviewer to enter. She shuffled the papers on her desk about, and reread the form Shizuna Nishimura had filled out.

I smiled shakily at Elly as my name was called, three syllables stretching throughout the mostly empty room, almost as if it echoed.

"You'll be fine," she whispered as she patted my arm, and surely felt the tiny goosebumps covering my pale skin. I nodded, almost to myself more than her.

Walking into the office, I spotted a young woman sitting at a desk that was swamped with piles of papers, some written on, some not. She was straightening up a stack that had almost fallen over, and was humming a tune that reminded me of something from long ago as it crept into my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "H-hello?"

Ms. Flowers glanced up with a smile. "Hey there. Have a seat." She motioned to the chair in front of the desk. "As you may know, I'm Ms. Flowers. I'll be subbing in the costume shop for the rest of the semester semester while Mrs. Daniels has her baby. So, what made you want to work in the costume shop?"

I sat down in the worn out chair, slightly slouching then bolting upright as I realized my posture was terrible. Why was I so nervous? My father had always dragged me around big-shot adults at parties, so why was I so terrified of authority?

"So, what made you want to work in the costume shop?" Ms. Flowers' voice cut through my reverie, and I nearly jumped. God, I'm a mess.

"Um...I really enjoy making things. I mean, when I sketch things out on a piece of paper and I'm given the materials to actually make it, it's like...I'm in a world of my own..."

My voice became softer as I spoke, and I began to stare at my hands, covered in clay from my latest project.

Ms. Flowers grinned. "Sounds like exactly the type of person I'm looking for. I don't want anyone working in the shop with me who is just doing it for the money--although that part is fun too!" She stood up abruptly and went to the door. "Janet? Will you come in here?" She turned to smile reassuringly at the girl. "Welcome to the costume shop crew, dear. Janet has been working here a while, and she'll show you where the shop is, and the dressing rooms.

OOC: Hey, Lady Timpani, Kitty is gonna jump in as the new girl, to give us and extra character to work with. (And reassure her )

Janet came in through the door in the back, yawning widely. "What now? Sorry I was... studying, in the back." She quickly realized that there was a small girl sitting nervously in a chair across the desk from Ms. Flowers. "Dang it, I forgot the interviews were today," she whined exhaustedly. Janet stretched, her sweater dress riding up a tiny bit. She hastily pulled it back down and straightened, at attention. "Alright chief, what do I need to do?" she asked her boss.

Ms. Flowers fought the urge to roll her eyes. "Good Morning, Janet. Please give this young lady a tour of our hall, point out the shop, the dressing rooms, and the stage doors, ok?" She clasped her hands together, and nodded "That should be enough to get started."

Janet sighed dramatically but then smiled. "Sure thing, Ms. Flowers." She held her hand out to the small girl in front of her. "Hey, I'm Janet. Welcome to the shop crew. What's your name?"

"I'm Shizuna Nishimura," I bowed, trying to calm myself down. "It's nice to meet you."

Janet raised an eyebrow at Shizuna's bow, but chose not to comment on it. "Nice to meet you, Shizuna. If you'll follow me..." She lead the new girl out of Ms. Flowers' office and into the theater hallway. "So the doors on the right all lead onto the back of the stage. Unless otherwise specified, they should be locked at all times so that way nobody can sneak into the auditorium," she started a commentary as she walked down the hall. "This first door on our left is the guys' dressing room. Make sure that they clean it themselves. They'll try to convince you it's your job, but just ignore them. Also, not all of them are gay, so be careful. The second door is the girls' room. They usually clean up after themselves, but the scent of perfume is always overwhelming so I don't always check. Plus they're a bunch of snobs to me since I have stage fright, so I personally hate going in there." The two reached the last door in the hallway, which was actually a set of two doors. Janet grinned. "This one's my favorite." She threw open the doors dramatically. "Welcome to the shop!" she cried enthusiastically. The room's right wall was covered in heaps of supplies; fabric in every color, along with sequins everywhere. The back wall featured a line of the completed costumes while the left side of the room had tons of sewing machines and mannequins featuring works in progress. Janet turned to Shizuna. "What do you think?" she gushed.

"Wow..." I let my voice trail off as I gazed into a room blanketed with fabrics as far as the eye could see. "This is...amazing."

Elly had always been the one in love with fashion, but she could never afford any new clothes. Maybe...maybe I could make her some?

I took a step towards the room, then stopped. I was getting way ahead of myself. Turning around, I smiled at Janet. "This is really cool!"

Janet smiled at the other girl. "I thought you might like it. It's my favorite room in the entire school. It's the one place where I can get away from everything and just pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist."

"I know what you mean..." I replied, trailing off as I thought back to the art room, and the mounds of clay kept there, just waiting for me to mold them into a shape of my own.
